The Evolution of Visible Air

The Evolution of Visible Air

In 1987, Nike Air was not a new proposition. Runners were already familiar with its cushioning benefits, which first appeared in the Nike Tailwind in 1978. But the world wouldn’t join the air cushioning revolution until Nike Air was more than a feeling. The next step was made when Nike designer Tinker Hatfield set out to visualize that feeling.

When Nike’s Director of Cushioning Innovation, David Forland joined Tinker’s team in 1985, they created the iconic Air Max, introducing a visible Air unit at the rear part of the midsole, and giving birth to the Air Max Serie wich has been continuously evolving over the past 28 years, revolutionizing the world of sneakers.
